[ClusterLabs] two node cluster: do the nodes have to be in the same subnet ?

"Can do it" and "should do it" are not the same. :)

Stretch-clusters are very hard and complex to implement properly because
of unreliable fencing (WAN goes down, so do all methods of fencing and
the cluster will have to hang).
