sorry, i'm no serial line guy ;) the few cases where i used it,
it worked...

is another program using ttyS0? (e.g. getty? ser2net? etc.)
(lsof -n |grep /dev/ttyS0)

is it possible to *directly* communicate via the serial line?
what happens if you connect the serial cable before starting pacemaker?
