Unfortunately, the lvm project used the name "lvm2" to mean something
different, so giving a new meaning to the "lvm" vs "lvm2" distinction
would be confusing.
In lvm, The 2 in "lvm2" signifies the difference between it and the old
"lvm" (pre device-mapper). Since the old lvm hasn't been used in many
years, "lvm" now means the current lvm to everybody, and the 2 has been
slowly disappearing.
